Living in the Tourist Capital of New Zealand | Study With New Zealand

Jenny Cahulogan
Student from the Philippines

Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology (located in Rotorua, New Zealand) was introduced by its school representative to me in the Philippines. It made me feel connected and I was reassured knowing that it is a government owned institution. Jenny decided to study in Rotorua because it is the tourist capital of New Zealand and the cost of living is relatively low.

The tuition fees were relatively high compared to my second choice which was in Auckland but still, I grabbed the opportunity due to its location (tourist capital), cost of living (relatively low compared to main cities) and work opportunities.

Studying here is relatively easy and straightforward compared to my home town which made it a great place for learning. All student tasks and assessments are prepared and ready to view online. Having this kind of educational system makes it easier for me to prepare myself for class.

Urban adventures in New Zealand

Toi Ohomai has a student calendar, class resources, and course marks on one website which allows me to easily view my academic progress and contact tutors, classmates and school personnel. Their services are excellent and the institution is focussed on the safety of its students whilst ensuring that every international student has a sense of belonging to the school and the community.

I've been to Te Kaha, a beach in the Bay of Plenty, for camping and fishing along with my partner (also my classmate) and a few of my local friends. I had so much fun!

My Final Tips for those considering coming to New Zealand

  • You must have a "can do attitude"
  • You must know how to cook your own meals
  • You must know how to blend in
