Amit’s post graduate study in New Zealand led to an influential career that spans the globe
Amit Doshi from India is the General Manager for Advanced MedTech Solutions, overseeing business operations in the UK, America, and Africa.
Amit’s role has taken him to 90 countries—a personal achievement he cherishes as one of the greatest joys of his life. He attributes his success to the experience he had studying for a Master of Business Administration at Dunedin’s Otago University in New Zealand’s South Island.
An experience that he calls transformative, equipping him with the skills and mindset he needed to thrive in the global marketplace.
Quality education
Amit began his career in Mumbai as a Key Accounts Manager at Meril Life Sciences after completing a degree in Biomedical Engineering. Eager to broaden his horizons and move into business management, he chose New Zealand for his postgraduate studies. He felt that New Zealand ticked all the right boxes in terms of world-class universities, strong academic credentials, and affordable fees.
All of New Zealand’s universities are ranked in the top 2% in the world by QS World University Rankings.
Refreshingly different teaching style
What Amit really appreciated about studying in New Zealand was the collaborative style of teaching. Throughout his MBA programme he was encouraged to shared ideas with his teachers and fellow students, ask questions, create and innovate.
He was particularly impressed by his professors who spent time with him during one-on-one sessions, guiding him through each course and giving him the confidence to delve deeper into his studies.
Amit believes the education he received in New Zealand provided him with critical knowledge and helped him develop stronger analytical thinking. It’s these highly transferable skills that have helped him achieve success in his career, giving him the confidence to lead global operations across over 100 countries.
The advice my professors gave me helped shape my career and guided my decisions after my MBA programme
A transformative experience
Amit learnt a lot at Otago University, and it wasn’t all in the classroom. He joined many extracurricular activities that not only helped him grow as a person but also enabled him to build a valuable and diverse network. He participated in a consulting project with Ignite Consultants, performed in a Bollywood dance at the Indian Student Association’s annual event, and volunteered with the United Nations Programme and the Red Cross. It was this broad range of experiences that widened his perspectives and added a whole new layer to his academic studies.
“New Zealand was the starting point of my journey. It was like I was in a boat on the river, and I just kept on going.”
Opportunities to grow his career
One of the standout aspects of the Otago MBA is its international exchange programme. Amit spent a semester at Duke University in the USA, pursuing Marketing Management. This opportunity allowed him to explore different cultures and gain insights into global business practices. His exchange led to an internship with Maxx Orthopedics Inc. in Philadelphia, which eventually transitioned into a full-time role. This experience was instrumental in shaping his remarkable career trajectory.
New Zealand is a great place to live and study
As soon as Amit landed in New Zealand he was mesmerised by the stunning landscapes of the South Island. He enjoyed the vibe of Dunedin’s historic city centre and was impressed by the range of facilities at the university. He met people from all over the world and learnt a lot about other cultures particularly Māori and Pacific Island cultures. What he enjoyed most of all were the friendly people and relaxed lifestyle. His time here enabled him to build a solid foundation for personal and professional growth.
I would recommend New Zealand education for world-class universities, excellent professors and coursework, natural beauty and the finest facilities a university can offer
